Chest/Back pain-scared!

Post a new topicby chic on Sun Jan 13, 2008 8:31 am

Hi,I'm 35 year old female who has been in pretty good health most of my life.I am a smoker and after a life event about 3 years ago I stopped exersicing, became very depressed and have been smoking very heavily".
Now when I try to excerise I get a severe pain in my chest and back (on both left and right sides) it seems to come from my lung area.Even slight exercise bring this pain on.....I first noticed this pain about 18months ago.I then tried to stop smoking many times without success........I'm to scared to go to a doctor as I fear it may be lung cancer Now I have developed a cough that has been on-going for about 4months.
Please forgive my ignorance, however I'm told lung cancer is nearly always terminal...

Fear of the unknown causes anxiety and once you know your fate, you might find you are less anxious...so make a doctor's appointment, ask for chest xray and stress test...decrease your smoking if you can..

Curiously pain is not frequently associated with primary lung cancer. That is why it is frequently not caught soon enough. Exertional chest pain is more often heart related which could be rough news too but nowhere near as bad as cancer. You do need to get the pain medically evaluated to understand the problem. I hope it is not very serious.
