Pain and CopdMy mother has COPD (severe) I told her I had been on this site talking with others with the same type or dealing with someone with the COPD She wants to know if anybody has pain in rhe arms and legs. She states that her arms and legs burns like they are on fire. Legs ache all the way to the bones and if she walk on them they will break. Is this happening to someone else or their love ones? We have a dr.'s appointment in June. Could this be a part of the COPD?
Re: Pain and CopdHi, my mum says she aches all over and feels like her body is not her own.Feels that hr body is like jelly.
From what i have read on different sights about COPD this seems to be quite common and alot of other COPD sufferers have mention this, also swelling in the legs and feet. I just try and read as much info as i can because it's not just about the breathing, there's lots of other symptons that you wouldn't even considder to be related. hope this helps.x
Re: Pain and CopdThanks I am new at this internet thing and I just happen to find this site. If you have any you want to suggest I read I open. Again Thank You.
Re: Pain and Copdit's really easy to find lots of information on COPD just type COPD in search engine and loads of different sights should appear.
Read and take in as much info as you can especially on symptoms and acute exasperations as these will help you understand what they are going through and how they can feel at different times.also will help you to recognize the early sighs of an attack so they can be treated without hospitalisation. My mum when first diagnosed was addiment she wasnt ill and carried on smoking untill she got an infection on the chest and ended up not being able to breath. got to hospital and told she also had empheysema and that she probably wouldn't pull through. went through hell that week waiting for the worst to happen, then mum started to show sighns of improvement with her oxygen levels rising. She's now out of hospital now and doing well but legs are really swollen which is quite comman and coughing up lots of sputum. I have used the info i've found to educate my family and my mum so we all know what to expect if she gets bad again. Mums oxygen levels now up to 91% from 66% when in hospital, so there is hope. The most important thing is that mum has quit smoking because doctors told her if she didn't she would die and they weren't nice about it either but that approach worked. I know she's finding it hard but all we can do is support her. i hope this helps you and your family through this horrible disese that unfortunatly there is no cure. feel free to chat anytime.x
Re: Pain and CopdMama's Angel my father has COPD and it is very severe as well. He was diagnossed about 7-8 years ago and we have had MANY scares since then. I have been told several times that he was going to die. I have rec'd the phone call in the middle of the night from my fathers doctor asking me if we wished to intubate. (He has a DNR order). I know this all sounds awful but I have to tell you I am thankful for the time I have had with my father.
As for the swelling and pain, it is very common with COPD. Its amazing how many systems are affected. There are tons of websites out there with a great deal of information regarding COPD and what to expect. I have learned so much over the years that my father calls me his personal nurse:) Trust me it is great to be informed about the things that can happen just in case they do. Best of luck to you and your mother.. God Bless
